How everything started... |
 From April until September 2004, Nikola Denkinger worked as a volunteer for the Mohau Centre, stationed in the South African township Atteridgeville. The Mohau Centre is a children's home for orphans, HIV infected and abused children, placed on the Kalafong Hospital’s property on the outskirts of Atteridgeville, South Africa, and momentarily gives home to 35 children.
Not only the number of children and orphans infected with HIV, but the daily experience of disease, misery, poverty as well as the almost overwhelming needs that exist in this township, as in many others, caused Nikola Denkinger to found the registered association Mohau.
The association finally was brought into being by Nikola Denkinger and eight other members of her family and circle of friends on the 1st of June 2005. The associations’ charitableness was acknowledged twice – on 8.06.2005 and on 04.07.2007 - by the fiscal authorities Stuttgart, corporation dept. The recordation into the register of associations was effected on 9th of September 2004 at the Local Court Stuttgart under VR 720011.
The association’s name derives from the Mohau Centre and in Sesotho, one of South Africa’s 11 national languages, stands for mercy.
